Handlebar Selection: Is Everyone Confused?

We all know how crucial the right handlebar is, but when you get into the nitty-gritty, it can really make your head spin. Thankfully, Jeff has simplified it for us, and we’ve added our own experiences to create a guide that will steer you in the right direction.

Handlebar Types: Thin or Thick? Which One’s Right?

When it comes to choosing handlebars, the first step is picking the right type. Jeff’s advice is pretty clear: if you’re looking for more flexibility and vibration reduction, Fat Bars are your go-to. But if you’re the “I need to feel everything, vibration? No problem, you’ll get used to it!” type, then Twin Wall handlebars are for you. In short, Fat Bars offer a smoother ride, while Twin Wall bars provide a stiffer, more precise feel.

Height: It’s More Than Just Your Size!

You know your height, but this isn’t just about that! Jeff explains that handlebar height is actually tied to your body proportions, riding style, and even the terrain. If you’re tall and raising your handlebars, make sure to check your seat and footpeg settings as well. Choose your handlebar based on your riding style and conditions: shorter bars for hard-packed terrain and taller bars for sandy tracks.

Handlebar Sweep: Keep Those Elbows Up!

So, you’ve picked your handlebar, but what about the sweep? The key here is to find a sweep that keeps your elbows and body in the right position. According to Jeff, less sweep helps keep your elbows up, giving you better control. Finding the right sweep can make a big difference in your ride.

Test, Experiment, Decide!

Still unsure? Take Jeff’s advice: use bar riser spacers to experiment with different heights before committing. The best setup is often found through trial and error. Remember, riding is a personal experience, and the key to peak performance is not being afraid to test and adjust.

Jeff Walker says choosing a handlebar is an art, and he’s absolutely right. But let’s not forget—it should be fun too! Don’t be afraid to experiment, and when you feel more connected with your bike, you’ll know you’ve found the right setup.
