Mireia Badia, the Women’s Enduro World Champion, has announced her retirement from competitive racing and will not be defending her title this season. Badia, who began her cycling journey by following her family’s passion, unexpectedly rose to prominence in the world of enduro. At just 28 years old, she has decided to retire from the sport.
Throughout her illustrious career, Badia earned a world championship title and nine Spanish Championships, leaving a significant legacy in the world of enduro. Reflecting on her career, she shared, “I’m leaving with no regrets. I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do.”
Badia explained her decision to retire: “I wanted to give it one more year because, until the very end, there was uncertainty about whether I could win the world championship. But I felt like the time had come. I’ve spent many years in this sport, and finally, I became a world champion. Sometimes, the best thing to do is stop when the time is right.”
Though her retirement marks the end of a distinguished racing career, Badia remains closely connected to the enduro community. She hinted that her future steps will be full of surprises. “I won’t be leaving the enduro world, but the future will be full of surprises,” she said, keeping her next moves under wraps.
Mireia showcases her Rieju MR Pro 300 bike, which she raced during the EnduroGP and Spanish Enduro Championships. This 2-stroke bike, though different from the 4-stroke bikes she was accustomed to, became a symbol of her versatility as she adapted to its unique handling. Her bike setup, which includes Michelin tires, KYB suspensions, and the Xtrig clamps, helped her perform at the highest level.
